Two Reference Systems in our Factory

No other manufacturer makes the radical claim that vintage gear can be better than most modern gear, or the even more shocking assertion that 75 year old technology can serve as a reference for musical reproduction. Or goal is to capture the spirit of the great theater systems and bring performance in line with modern expectations in terms of frequency response and high tech construction practices.

In our case, we consider our factory vintage system to be a worthy model for our
design efforts.

WE 15A Full Range Horns/555 Drivers/46C Power Amp

Our factory vintage system: Western Electric 15A horns with 555 drivers, WE 46C or D-95129 power amps. 49B Line amps, 1126A limiting amplifiers reconfigured for RIAA Equalization.
Lansing 415 15" field coil woofers in Altec cabs are available but not hooked up, because the 15A do not really need a woofer--especially with 46C amplifiers!

We use several Western Electric studio amplifers configured for phono preamplification. In the featured system, we utliize a pair of WE 1126A limiting amps with limiter circuitry removed and RIAA EQ added by our Japanese specialist friends.

We often opt to use the rare WE D-95129 in place of the 46C in our 15A horn system. This amp uses PP275A output tubes. Most people who get to know this amp prefer it to the famous Model 86 300B amplifiers due to its amazing natural sound. The 46C is hard to beat with 15A horns, however.

SILBATONE MODERN SYSTEM

We maintain a complete Silbatone system in the next room over from the 15A setup,
which allows us to perform constant reality checks on our progress. We can boast that there is a strong family resemblance between the Silbatone Aporia with our 300B amps and the great Western Electric full range 15A. Frequency extremes are better on the Aporia and scale of presentation is impressive for a "small" horn!
